The mission of the Rockbridge Area Information Line (RAIL) is to establish and operate a non-profit information clearinghouse, run primarily by volunteers, to develop and maintain an information data base of community resources and activities available to residents of Buena Vista, Lexington and Rockbridge County. This information will be accessible to the public through various media. The Volunteer Clearinghouse Committee, one of RAIL’s committees, has the mission of developing and managing the volunteer clearinghouse functions of the larger RAIL mission. The main goal of the volunteer clearinghouse is to bring volunteers together with non-profit organizations which are serving the community. This will be accomplished through coordination with the Data Base/Internet and Publications Committees. The Chairman of the Volunteer Clearinghouse Committee Chairman reports to the RAIL Chairman. The responsibilities of the Volunteer Committee Chairman include: 1. Coordinating with the Data Base/Internet Committee to assure that information being gathered from non-profit organizations is adequate for volunteer advertisement. 2. Coordinating with the Publications Committee to develop the Volunteer Section of the Annual RAIL Resource Guide. 3. Assuring that the Regional Library has up to date information on volunteer opportunities in the community appropriately displayed in the reference section of the library. 4. Developing and executing a program that assures that non-profit organizations with volunteer needs know of the RAIL Volunteer Clearinghouse program and are actively taking steps to make their needs know to RAIL 5. Seeking other methods of “getting the word out” to prospective volunteers. Individuals wishing to apply for the position of Chairman of this committee, to serve on the committee or in any other capacity of the RAIL organization, please contact Pat Tichenor at 261-9528 or use the contact us link below. |
