The mission of the Rockbridge Area Information Line (RAIL) is to establish and operate a non-profit information clearinghouse, run primarily by volunteers, to develop and maintain an information data base of community resources and activities available to residents of Buena Vista, Lexington and Rockbridge County. This information will be accessible to the public through various media. The Data Committee, one of RAIL’s committees, has the mission of gathering, verifying and entering information about organizations into the RAIL data base. This committee is comprised of Information Gatherers, Information Verifiers and those that input information into the data base. Individuals may volunteer for one or all three of these functions. Volunteers in these positions report to the Chairman of the Data Base Committee. The responsibilities of an Information Gatherer include: 1. Contact organizations received from the Chairman of the Data Base Committee. 2. Fill out the Data Base Survey form based on information received from the organization. 3. Return Data Base Survey Form to Chairman Responsibilities of an Information Verifier: 1. The information verifier deals mainly with information for organizations that are already in the data base. The main duty of the Verifier is to contact organizations to assure that their information in the data base is current. 2. Verifiers submit lists of organizations that require no change and updated information for those that require changes to the Chairman of the Data Base Committee. Responsibilities of an Information Enterer: The enterer receives completed and verified Data Base Survey Forms for the Chairman and enters the information to the online data base using web forms.
